Police present for suspension of Corydon city clerk

CORYDON, KENTUCKY (WFIE) -

Corydon has a new Mayor, but their City Clerk has been suspended. Sheriff's Deputies and State Police were called in to another heated day at town hall, and the doors still aren't even open.

Mayor Hilda McCormic wouldn't tell us why City Clerk Lisa Ervin was suspended Thursday, and she also wouldn't identify the person bonded, who could take the City Clerk's job, but our camera was there to get the answer.

With a group of concerned citizens waiting outside City Hall, Corydon's new mayor issued a suspension to City Clerk Lisa Ervin.

"I will tell you this, the lady who just left here is not a City Clerk, said Mayor McCormic. "She has had no training. She's worked here for a year, but she has had no training to be a City Clerk. So, I can hire a clerk if I want to. I have to advertise for a City Clerk, ok? And that's all I'm going to say."

Congregation of people waiting outside, Mayor McCormic and Councilwoman Beth French made their way toward City Hall and their sheriff's escort.

Once inside, the mayor, along with Councilman French and French's mother Charlene Fredricks, issued a suspension to current City Clerk Lisa Ervin.

Outside, neighbors waited to hear the news.

"I'm not at liberty to tell you," said Mayor McCormic when asked about the identity of the person that had been bonded. "And why aren't you at liberty to tell me?" 14 News' Brian Boesen asked. "Because I don't want to," she answered.

But our camera was there earlier to get the answer.

The woman standing next to the Mayor was Charlene Fredricks, who was allowed inside City Hall, as Ervin was issued her suspension.

"Beth French's mother is not a city clerk, she would just be a clerk," noted Mayor McCormic.

Neighbors say the turmoil surrounding the situation is already taking its toll.

And for Ervin, she may be looking for another job.

"I'm out for the citizens and I'm out for the town, it's not about Mayor Thurby and it's not about the council. It's about what's right for the town and the citizens in here," Ervin told 14 News.

Mayor McCormic told us she is hoping to re-open city hall Friday, then she had Sheriff's Deputies remove us from the building.

Also of note, Wednesday is the Mayor's birthday.
