Owensboro, Ky. (WFIE) -
Construction is still a few months away from being completed, but we expect to learn some big news today about the new Convention Center in Owensboro.
Organizers aren't giving away the surprise yet, but they say it's something along the lines of their first big event at the center.
Construction is still underway on this project worth roughly 40 million dollars.
In the next couple weeks, crews are expected to start building vertically, with an anticipated completion date of December of next year.
The main goal of this new center is have a bigger venue for different events, a place for meetings and parties, and also replace what the old Executive Inn offered for the city.
This project has prompted a lot of discussion among city leaders and residents regarding what the center will offer.
Tourism is also a major factor, and officials are hoping events such as the one announced tonight will attract people from all over to Owensboro.
This big announcement will take place Thursday evening at 6:30 at the corner of West 1st and Elm in Downtown Owensboro.
The public is invited to attend.
So even though it's a little while before the center is completed, you can get a taste of what kinds of events the center will offer.
