EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
We're less than 48 hours away from the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Local athletes with big dreams are waiting to watch their favorite Olympians compete. They can't wait to watch their Olympic idols go for the gold.
"I think it's the strongest it's been in years and I think they'll do a great job," said Acros gymnast Sarah Smith.
Some local athletes are flipping with excitement to watch their favorite U.S. Gymnasts in this summer's Olympic Games.
"I'm so excited to watch it because I think they're going to do great. It's a really strong U.S. team this year," said Acros gymnast Claudia Eder.
The group of young female gymnasts at Acros Gymnastics in Evansville spend as many as 20 hours a week on the mats.
"It's very close. We always cheer each other on. We're like best friends. We're like sisters," Smith said.
13-year old Smith competed at nationals this year. Now, she has her eyes set on an even bigger goal.
"I want to go to the Olympics in 2016 in Rio De Janeiro," Smith said. "I find it fun and it's fun to get new skills, it's achieving."
14 News' Brian Boesen says the routines the young girls do aren't easy. He tried some of them himself.
The Olympic Opening Ceremonies will air on WFIE Friday with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
