WHITE CO, IL (WFIE) -
The investigation continues into what caused an oil tank explosion Tuesday in White County, Illinois.
Four men were burned and three are still in the hospital. Shane Farris, the welder whose injuries we are told are the most severe is in critical condition at a University of Louisville Burn Unit. John Sullivan is also in Louisville in serious condition. Jason Parr is in stable condition at a St. Louis Hospital. Brandon Hooper was released Tuesday night from an Eldorado hospital, which is about 14 miles from Norris City.
The Department of Natural Resources and OSHA were on the scene of that explosion marking the official start to their investigation.
OSHA representatives say a company is required to report any incident where more than three people are injured and must be hospitalized.
They say this investigation will be completed in six months, hopefully sooner.
Officials say while the investigation will focus primarily on whether or not OSHA standards were violated, they will also look into what steps can be taken to make sure this doesn't happen again.
"Our OSHA inspectors will immediately start talking to the workers, the employers, any witnesses. Will look at the scene very carefully to determine what might have caused the explosion," said Scott Allen with the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal is also looking into this explosion. They say they'll have their results next week.
