DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Daviess County Public School System has been selected as a pilot district for a new statewide kindergarten screener program.

Today kindergartners at Country Heights Elementary were asked readiness questions: name, address, phone number. Things like that.

The old screening program was more academic based. The goal is to figure out a child's needs so teachers know where to start them out in their class.

Results should be back sometime in August.

The state will look at the results of the program and implement it into other school systems.

"If you haven't enrolled your student yet, please do so" said kindergarten teacher Diana Cole. "It's very important to that before the first day of school. The second thing is, for drivers around town, please slow down, schools are getting back in session and kids often get excited and don't pay attention, so we want everybody to slow down."
