Evansville's Old Courthouse could see renovations

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

Some renovations could be in store for the Old Courthouse in downtown Evansville.

Vanderburgh County Commissioners on Tuesday looked at pictures showing broken marble tiles and wall and ceiling damage in the building that dates back to 1891.

"This is a historic building. It's a treasure to Vanderburgh County and all that's going to happen if we do nothing is it's just going to continue to mount," said Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kiefer. "The costs aren't going to go away. The repairs aren't going to go away. They'll probably get worse."

"I think we're on the way of making that old courthouse something. I wanted to make it a destination place for people and I think it is," said Kelley Coures with the Old Courthouse Foundation.

Commissioners say they will consider the renovations and take up the issue again at a later meeting.
