WHITE CO, IL (WFIE) -

Crews were called to an oil tank explosion at an oil field in White County, Illinois Tuesday afternoon.

The location given to 14News by dispatchers was 500N/800E, Norris City, near Plainview Church.

Authorities say four men were injured and taken to four different hospitals. Deputies say Shane Farris of Enfield, IL and John Sullivan of Herald, IL were flown from the scene to the hospital. They say Brandon Hooper of Fairfield, IL and Jason Parr of Norris City, IL were taken to a local hospital by ambulance. They say all injuries were burn related.

Farris, the welder whose injuries 14 News is told are the worst, is in critical condition at a University of Louisville Burn Unit. Officials say Sullivan is also in the University of Louisville Hospital in serious condition. Parr is in stable condition at a St. Louis Hospital. Hooper was treated and released on Tuesday from Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, Illinois.

Officials say the explosion was possibly the result of welding work that was being done on one of the tanks.

Officials with Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office and Department of Mines and Miners were called to the scene to investigate.
