Posey County fire started from kids playing "birthday party"

POSEY COUNTY, IN (WFIE) -

At least three departments were called to the scene of a house fire in Posey County.

Fire officials say it happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from Wadesville, Posey County and Marrs Township were been called to the scene on 6101 Haines Road.

When firefighters arrived they could see smoke coming from the basement.

Homeowner says children were in the basement of the home playing birthday party.  They thought they had extinguished the candle flame, but the kids caught a brand new pile of school clothes on fire instead. 

Everyone got out of the house safe. 

The homeowner went back inside with a garden hose after trying fire extinguisher, but the was smoke so bad, they had to get out. 

Fire crews say the hose led them to exactly where the fire was and was contained to just the clothes.
