Scam targeting Heritage Federal Credit Union members

TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

Phishing scams are on the rise, and most recently, they are hoping to target Heritage Federal Credit Union members.

The good thing is you as the consumer have the control as long as you don't provide any information, scammers can't access your accounts.

This time Heritage Federal Union's name was used by scammers. Several people, credit union members and non-members received text messages and phone calls requesting private information.

"The fraudsters have gone out on the Internet, gathered all kinds of telephone numbers and just did robust calling through those numbers. Then mentioned Heritage Federal Credit Union, trying to snag a Heritage Federal Credit Union member with a Visa credit card so they could try to gain that personal information," said Steve Bugg, Chief Marketing Officer at Heritage Credit Union.

Law enforcement has been informed, but it is difficult to prosecute those who are making those calls.

Best advice is to never give out personal information either through text, phone or email.
