EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Security has been stepped up at movie theaters all across the country, but despite all of that, many here in the tri-state say that won't keep them away from seeing the newest Batman movie.
There's just something about Batman that keeps superhero lovers coming back for more.
"For me, with him just being a regular guy that basically does not have any superhero powers, just a regular guy, just out fighting crime," said moviegoer Ryan Jones.
Roger Odom and his grandson, Thomas Cheeseman, have gone to every Batman movie and they have high expectations for the final chapter of the story.
"Well, I hope it's really good and I hear it's really good. I hope that they keep the car and the motorcycle in it and all that because they had all that in it and I thought that was a plus," Roger Odom said.
But amongst feeling of excitement for these Dark knight fans at seeing the highly anticipated film, there's a sense of grief and sorrow. Moviegoers in Evansville say as they sit down to enjoy the movie, they'll also be thinking about those who suffered the shooting tragedy in Aurora, Colorado.
"I feel really bad for the people who lost their loved ones out there," Odom said.
An assistant manager at Showplace Cinemas East in Evansville says ticket sales for "The Dark Knight Rises" have been booming in the days since it's release. They say that all of the Imax showings and several regular theater showings were sold out on Friday and they expected the same for Saturday.
Fans we spoke with say the tragedy did not damper their desire to see the movie.
"For me, it didn't, but I do know a lot of people that I've talked to who said because of that they probably won't come see it. I don't think it will be anything different. I say the true superhero, the true Batman fans are still going to come out and see it," Odom said.
Showplace Cinema's had showings of the movie nearly on the hour and will do the same Sunday.
