GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -
Effective immediately, a judge has ordered all hot work and metal torching must stop at the former Emge building in Gibson County.
The town council of Ft. Branch and Union Township Trustee filed a complaint against Congress Oil LLC after their fire departments were called to put out the last two fires at the former Emge plant, believed to be caused by salvaging metal.
David Mounts, Manager of Congress Oil LLC was in court Thursday representing himself.
Judge Earl Penrod issued a permanent injunction to stop all metal torching and hot work at the plant.
David Mounts agreed and said after the May 2012 fire, he had ordered any of his contractors to stop metal salvaging.
Mounts also said he is working with a Chicago based company to level the property.
"I mean, I was in the court room and I went 'yes' because this is what we are trying to do, to get the place leveled and somewhat orderly," said Ft. Branch resident Mariette House.
"I think most people's attitude is they are going to say 'we'll believe it when we see it' because it's been standing there for a long time," said Town Council President Tom Wallace.
No timeline was given as to when the building might be demolished.
