Couple accused of making meth in apartment above daycare

BOONVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

New information on a Warrick Co. meth bust. Police say they found working meth labs above a soon-to-be child care center.

Warrick County deputies arrested 32-year-old Brandon Grubb and 33-year-old Amy Huey. Both have been preliminary charged with several drug felonies.

Thursday night, 14 News talked with Amy Huey's father. He says he is extremely disappointed.

His daughter and her boyfriend are still in jail at this hour.

Signs for the child care service are up on Highway 61 North outside of Boonville, but instead of finding children there, deputies say they found a meth making operation upstairs.

"For a daycare, that's very surprising," said Boonville resident Justin Fussner.

"Someone that's going to be taking care of your children you try to do your background checks, but you can never be to sure," said resident Maryellen Gentry.

"I'm not sure if it was ever open for business, but they were getting ready to open," Sheriff Brett Kruse said.

Kruse says Amy Huey planned on running the child care center and that the building belongs to her parents.

Investigators say Huey's boyfriend, Brandon Grubb, was renting an apartment above the day care in the converted garage.

In the attic is where investigators say they found several containers with active meth labs.

"It's alarming to me, but it doesn't surprise me. The people who are cooking meth, they don't are about their surroundings," said Kruse. "They don't care about the people who live next door to them, they don't care about anything but manufacturing the meth. That's what's in it for them, and that's what makes it so dangerous without any regard to the safety of anyone around them."

Police now have preliminarily charged the pair with six felonies and a misdemeanor.

Huey is facing an additional felony charge for possession of marijuana.

"I'm very thankful that it was found out before there were any children in the area, and no children were harmed," Gentry said.

Huey says he does not plan on bailing his daughter out of jail at least for now. Currently he is taking care of her three children.

Both Huey and Grubb are being held on a $5,000 cash bond, awaiting their court date.
