The Gibson County Health Department investigated a possible rat problem at the former Emge building.
Neighbors complained about seeing the rodents. After four visits at the plant, the health department says there are no signs of a rat infestation in the livestock barns. And officials say the rest of the former meat packing plant is unsafe to enter.
"Residents in this area have seen cats carrying rats in their mouths and they've seen rats in their yard," noted Ft. Branch resident Mariette House.
