NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

The town of Newburgh is getting a new museum.

As part of the new museum's opening events, they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the capture of Newburgh, which happened on this date, in 1862.

It was the first of several events leading up to Saturday's ribbon cutting.

The museum will be located in the old preservation hall, which was once a Presbyterian Church and then, the town hall.

"It's going to be a facility where locals can remember some things and refresh their memory on some things and that the visitors who have no knowledge of Newburgh history can leave with a greater appreciation for this historic river town," said President of the Newburgh Museum Foundation Bill Bartelt.

The museum will house all kinds of historical artifacts of Newburgh and will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays.
