HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

The Henderson Humane Society and Animal Control are investigating after they say two dogs were dropped off after-hours, in the heat, and left outside for hours.

A three-year-old shih tzu named Gizzy was one of the dogs dropped off, and while she's alive and with a foster family, Animal Control says other animals in her situation might not be so lucky.

Chief Animal Control Officer Jason King says Gizzy was left outside the shelter in a small crate Sunday. He says the dog sat there for 17 hours with no food or water until the shelter re-opened Monday.

Another dog, he says, was left just a few days before.

"It's common for us and for a lot of shelters all across the nation. It's something that we are trying to crack down on before an animal does die because it's left. Just like this, you know, the dog was fortunate, but the next one may not be. So, it's something that we're trying to stop before it gets out of hand," King said.

King says they are trying to find the people who left Gizzy.

If you recognize them, call Henderson Animal Control.
