NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -
Planning for the new Newburgh Museum has been going on for almost a year now, and the events leading up to this weekend's grand opening start today.
The museum will be located inside Newburgh Preservation Hall, on the lower level.
You might also know it as the old town hall.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting is set for this Saturday.
The museum will feature the history of Newburgh.
Its artifacts will deal with the culture, schools and economic activity of the town.
The events leading up to the grand opening start today with a ceremony at noon.
It will focus on "Remembering the Capture of Newburgh" along with a reenactment.
On Thursday at 6 p.m., there's a walking tour to "Bring the Downtown History to Life."
The Little Dam Band will play after that at 7. You can find them in the Courtyard at Jennings St.
Then on Friday, starting at 5:30, there will be a museum preview with a dinner and auction. That's $12 at the door.
Last but not least, the ribbon cutting will take place at noon on Saturday.
Authors and historians will be there to speak.
