HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -
Work on the final part of Henderson's downtown sewer project began on Tuesday. Crews were out starting some repaving work.
Crews were out milling the old pavement on Main Street in Henderson between Third and Sixth Streets, getting ready for new downtown roads.
The city says due to the EPA mandated sewer project some streets were damaged and then patched, and settled over the winter.
Now, Mayor Steve Austin says part of the $1.2 million project will include new base and top coats of blacktop and releveling manholes.
Engineers tell 14 News that work in commercial areas will be done in the evenings so businesses shouldn't be disrupted.
"As everything you do that progresses the community, there are some detours and there are some little problems that come up, but the finished product will be really good and be very valuable to the community for the next 20 years," Austin said.
