VANDERBURGH CO., IN -
Hello, my name is Bruce Ungethiem and we at CORE have thoroughly reviewed the proposed reorganization plan for Vanderburgh County and in our opinion this plan, as proposed, is fundamentally flawed. It does not balance the best interests of either city or rural residents. We as citizens of Vanderburgh County deserve better than this.
Without a financial impact study, there are no facts to support claims that this plan will save money or control taxes. When the leaders are asked how much they reply with "I don't know."
The supporters claim that we will have better representation, but with a more powerful mayor and appointed bureaucrats making decisions behind closed doors, access to the decision makers will be reduced.
Supporters also claim this plan will give power to the people. With one mayor and one council, it will become easier for the politicians to control local government and ignore the wishes of the people.
Finally, they claim this plan will promote job growth. However, independent studies from other consolidated cities have concluded that consolidation of government has no effect on job growth. Eventually, higher taxes will deter potential new companies from locating in Vanderburgh County.
I urge you to go to the website, CORE2012.net, to find the facts about this proposal and we are confident once you understand the deficiencies you will join us in voting no.
Thank you.
