MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -
The library in Madisonville is discontinuing its use of community service with the local jail after an inmate walked away from the site in June.
That inmate still hasn't been found.
Two days a week, inmates cleaned bathrooms as part of a community service program with the library. But just a few weeks ago, Timothy Lee Warner walked off the job and is still on the loose.
"You have to monitor the individuals very closely and being in such a public setting makes it more difficult," said interim library director, Angel Killough.
Warner was in the final 18 months of a 10 year sentence for non-violent crimes, and Killough says safety has to be one of their top concerns in this situation.
"That just brought into question the safety issues of the staff, safety issues of the public," Killough said.
Robert Carter with the Madisonville Police Department says even though Warner is still on the loose, with the technology they have, it makes it easier to share information with other agencies.
"There's information that is shared on a state level which we discussed is link and there's information that is shared on a national level which takes it out to the world abroad," Carter said.
Carter says often time public tips are the best when it comes to these situations.
"The neat thing about it is, as you say and we've heard, you can run but it makes it very difficult to hide," Carter said.
"I'm sorry that it happened. Like I said, we have a good relationship with the jail and I look forward to working with them in the future," Killough said.
The library is now in the final stages of accepting bids for a new cleaning service.
Library officials say in the future they may reconsider.
