Medical grants for families with gap in coverage

Posted: Updated:

Nine-year old Reid Panayakul could drop with a seizure at any moment. He suffers from a rare condition called Dravet Syndrome.

Reid's insurance wouldn't cover a $5,000 medical lift to help with his care, so his family turned to non-profit group, United Healthcare Children's Foundation.

"It came about to help people lead healthier lives and fill a need for children and families who have a gap in coverage, and need help in providing solutions and durable medical equipment that us not covered," says foundation member Stephen Farrell.

Reid's mother, Allison says the new lift is a quality of life saver.

"It has meant a lot to us as a family," Allison said.
