HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -

A 67-year-old man was rescued from the Ohio river, Monday morning, after his car went off of a boat ramp and into the water.

The accident occurred at Second and Water Streets in Henderson just after 5 a.m. An officer in the area reportedly saw it happen.

The officer says that the brake lights were on, but the vehicle did not stop. Several other officers were called to the scene.

Three officers swam out to the car and extricated Jerry Nelson. Just as Nelson was freed, the vehicle submerged completely.

Nelson was semi-conscious and made statements to the officers that lead them to believe that the accident was a result of a medical condition.

Nelson was taken to the hospital to make sure he was okay.

The car was pulled from the river a couple of hours later.

Officers say this doesn't happen often.

The last time a car ran off the ramp and into the river was five years ago.
