We're halfway through meteorological summer!

Posted: Updated:
TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

July 15th marks the halfway point in Meteorological summer which is comprised of June, July and August.

Just so there's no confusion, Meteorological summer is different than Astronomical summer which began on June 20th with the summer solstice (the sun reached it's northernmost point away from the equator).  The autumnal equinox (the point at which the sun's rays are directly over the equator) on September 22nd.

What a summer it's been so far!

The tri-state has already had 26 days with highs of 90 degrees or hotter and 10 days with highs of 100 degrees or hotter.  We hit 107 twice, back on June 28th and 29th, which also marked the hottest June days ever on record.

As for rainfall, we only picked-up .15" in June, making it the driest June on record.  July has been wetter with 1.47" in the rain gauge.  The puts us at .51" below normal from June 1st through July 15th.

Even with the up tick in rainfall, the tri-state remains in a severe to extreme drought, with a few spots earning"exceptional" drought status.

The long range forecast through the end of July is calling for warmer... and you guessed it, drier than normal conditions overall.
