HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -
Like many areas throughout the Tri-State, Hopkins County remains under a burn ban, and county officials want to remind residents that despite the cooler temps this week, the ban is still in effect.
There's even been a little rain throughout the area this past week, but it's not enough to lift the ban.
Just Thursday, fire crews had to put out a field fire in Anton and it was a reminder to everyone that the conditions are still right for a serious fire to spread.
Officials say the grass and trees are still dehydrated and prone to burning.
Emergency Management Director Frank Wright says temperatures are likely going to rise in the next week, and it's important for everyone to keep in mind, the ban is still in effect.
"These little showers they just come in one burst and then they're gone. What we need is a good one or three days of slow steady rain to soak the ground," Wright said.
Fireworks are still included in this ban as of now, we'll keep you updated once either of these have been lifted.
