EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The declaration of local disaster and subsequent ban on fireworks in the city of Evansville will expire at 5:00 p.m. Friday.

However, that doesn't mean you can go shooting off those fireworks just yet.

City ordinance says it is only legal to shoot off fireworks on certain days of the year, and that time frame in regards to 4th of July ran out on July 9th.  Shooting fireworks off after that date is illegal.

The next time fireworks are permitted in Evansville will be September 2nd and 3rd for the Labor Day holiday.

Mayor Winnecke says he would be supportive if City Council wanted to amend that ordinance to change those days or add days, once conditions warrant it.

If that time frame is changed and/or if days are added that would permit citizens shooting off fireworks, we'll be sure to let you know.
