Evansville event features free back to school supplies for needy kids

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

This year's Back-2-School Unity Fest will be held July 26, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Centre in Evansville.

It's the third annual year for the event.

It's coordinated by local organizations and businesses with the goal of collecting school supplies and donations that will help provide backpacks, grade-appropriate school supplies, toiletries and low-cost, new uniform-style clothing to some 2,500 area children in need who are entering kindergarten through eighth grade in the Evansville Vanderburgh County School System.

What parents or guardians of EVSC students need to know:

  • The event will serve children entering kindergarten through eighth grade
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult
  • All items are first-come, first-serve, while supplies last
  • These items will be distributed at no cost:
    - Backpacks
    - School supplies
    Uniform-style clothing will be available for purchase at $1 per item:
  • Children's sizes 4T – 16
  • Up to 5 uniforms per child
  • Price is $1 per item

Event-Day Volunteer Info:
All volunteers must pre-register at www.restoringpeople.com in the Back-2-School Unity Fest section
Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old
Set-up day: Thursday, July 26, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at The Centre
For identification purposes, key leaders will receive T-shirts to wear on event day
Volunteers will get a rubber bracelet
