EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

An autopsy has revealed heat exhaustion as the cause of death for a senior Evansville couple.

Their bodies were found on Monday night inside their mobile home.

The coroner ruled out any other cause of death for 73-year-old Paul Armes and his wife 66-year-old Marcella Armes.

Officials estimate it was 108 degrees inside the home yesterday. There is an air conditioning unit outside of the home but officials say it appears it wasn't working.

The investigation is still looking to determine when the couple died. It could have been days ago at the peak of the heat wave. The last time a family member had spoken to them, he says, was on July 1st when the temperature was a record breaking 105 degrees.

Detectives says the couple's daughter called in a welfare check at 5:10 p.m. Monday afternoon. When police arrived, they found the couple and their pet bird dead inside the home with all windows and doors locked.
