VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

The section of Highway 65, also known as Big Cynthiana road, in Vanderburgh County is now open again to traffic after a Monday morning wreck caused it to be shut down for most of the day.

A semi tractor trailer reportedly side-swiped a passenger car near the intersection of Big Cynthiana Road and Nisbet Road around 6:20 Monday morning. Officers received a call that the trailer was on its side and the cab was on fire.

When deputies arrived, they found the cab fully engulfed in flames. The driver of the semi, Richard Martin Cutlip, was able to climb from the cab and reach safety.

The driver of the car, Ronda Kay Stratton, was still in her vehicle. She was able to get out and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Scott and German Township Fire Departments reported to the scene. They were able to extinguish the fire, but not before it caused a big mess.

The truck was carrying 34,000 pounds of plastic polymer. When it caught fire, a lot of that melted onto the road. It took hours to clean up.

Deputies do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash.
