MT. VERNON, IN (WFIE) -

Mt. Vernon's Riverfront project is ahead of schedule.

Just a few months ago, the riverfront was all dirt. Now, the amphitheater is taking shape.

Crews broke ground on Phase Two of Mt. Vernon's Riverfront project in April.

Within the next couple months, crews will also build a river overlook and fountains.

The multi-million dollar project was expected to be completed by November, but due to the dry weather, crews are a month or two ahead of schedule.

"We definitely need rain and certainly wanting and praying for rain, so that's the bad thing about it, but the good thing about it is because of the weather we've had, it's allowed contractors to continue working everyday," said Mt. Vernon Mayor John Tucker.

Tax credits have also given a green light to private developers to build a three-story condominium with 48 senior apartments along the Riverfront.

The city hopes that construction completed by the end of 2013.
