Hello, and welcome to "Cooking with Katie".  My name is Katie Oakley; I'm the 9 & 10pm Producer for 14 News.  I love to write news, but I'm passionate about cooking.   I'm constantly bringing something in for my Co-workers just because you really shouldn't eat a cake by yourself.

I was born into a family of cooks. None of them ever owned a restaurant or anything of that sort.  Instead my Grandma Slattery and two of her daughters, my Aunt Kathy and my mom Judy would often cook and cater for events held at the American Legion they belonged to.

Through my Grandma Slattery, Grandma Oakley, Aunt Kathy, Aunt Janet, and my mom I learned the majority of my skills. The rest I picked up on my own or from my good friend Danny who is a trained Chef.

I believe my passion for cooking came from Sunday dinners at my Grandma Slattery's. For the first 18 years of my life we always went to Grandma's for dinner made almost always from scratch with a dessert of course.

My Grandma was an amazing cook, whether she was making Beef & Noodles, Fried Chicken, Apple Dumplings, Broccoli Soup (My personal ALL TIME favorite.), or Pumpkin Pie, the list is absolutely endless.  I was in and out of her kitchen inhaling the smells, sneaking tastes, and listening to her talk with her daughters.

I miss those Sundays and one way for me to remember them is to cook. The only problem is, I don't have a family of my own to cook for yet. Leaving me with lots of what I chose to cook. So, my 14 News family is constantly enjoying the fruits of my labor.

Each week I will be sharing a new recipe (or two) and a story behind the recipe. I hope that you will try the recipes and share them with your family, friends, or coworkers making your own memories.

Let's Cook!

                                                                                                            Katie
