EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Many people may be staying home or turning to local swimming pools to beat the heat, but Evansville has a cool alternative that some may not have thought about.

Swonder Ice Arena management says they have seen a significant rise in business since the Tri-State area was hit with this heat wave.

Assistant Manager Danielle Crook says the arena has been fully staffed at all hours of the day, while the arena is seeing an average of around 200 skaters a day.

Crook says skating at Swonder is a great way to beat the heat while staying active.

"We've normally about doubled or tripled our day time sessions, which go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., people just trying to escape the heat. We've had a lot of families come in and take advantage of the day time public seating rate," she said.

Crook says that rate is just five dollars, which includes skate rental.
