ISP participates in Operation CARE

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

Hundreds of people have been hitting the highways this week for the holiday, and Indiana State Police say they'll be watching.

ISP is taking part in "Operation CARE" to lower the number of accidents during the week of Independence Day. Troopers will be out, namely on highly traveled routes. They will be looking for aggressive driving like speeding, following to closely, and making unsafe lane changes.

Troopers say they're just asking for patience while traveling.

"Especially with the heat that we're having, tempers could be short. Just give yourself some extra time and be courteous to other drivers. It's much better if you just take an extra moment and take a deep breath than causing yourself some other problems," says senior trooper John Puskas.

And just because the Fourth of July is drawing to a close, it doesn't mean those patrols are. Operation CARE runs through July 8th.
