UPDATE: Man drowns in Wabash River in Gibson Co.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner tells 14 News the Gibson County man who was pulled from the Wabash River on Wednesday has died.

Emergency crews were called to a water rescue Wednesday afternoon near the Gibson-Posey County line.

Indiana Conservation Officers say 51-year-old Billy Serrett of Owensville was wading in the Wabash off a sand bar when witnesses saw him struggling and pulled him to shore.

Officials say Serrett was given CPR until emergency personnel arrived.

Authorities say Serrett was pulled from the water about a mile north of the I-64 bridge over the Wabash River.

Serrett was taken to Deaconess Hospital where he later died.
