WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -
It's the day after the United Leasing Tournament at Victoria National and now organizers and economic development officials are going over what worked and what can be done to improve future events.
A winner was crowned over the weekend and the course at Victoria National is now empty, but officials in Warrick County say the impact of having a PGA Tour lives on.
On the course, golfers showcased their abilities on the green. Off the course, officials at Success Warrick County led interested site selectors around some of the county's most promising features.
"As they're driving out to Victoria National, they're passing the medical district and Deaconess Hospital, you go down a new highway that's State Route 62. You go up another highway that's new and under construction on State Road 261, which denotes progress, and then you see some top caliber schools with the Castle school system," said Larry Taylor, President of Warrick County Economic Development.
Taylor says adding a professional sporting event makes Warrick County even more attractive for families and businesses.
"A lot of people who are considering moving to the area or moving businesses to the area like to have some kind of national caliber entertainment," Taylor said.
Monday afternoon at Victoria National, the lawns were cleared of tents and prepped for regular club play. Tournament director Becky Kasha says they're feeling confident about the tournament's success and are already looking to next year.
"Now that we have one under our belt, we can expand our options," Kasha said.
Kasha says one unexpected issue was the extremely hot weather. She says they combated it with water stations and towels, but says they might try to avoid a similar situation next time.
"We haven't set the schedule for 2013. We might be in a different time of year, it could go earlier or later so the weather wouldn't be an issue," Kasha said.
Kasha says she'd also like to see more events during the tournament, like concerts but overall, "I think we're proud of ourselves."
Taylor and Kasha say they've received a lot of compliments from golfers who say they'd like to come play here again.
