JASPER, IN (WFIE) -
A major accident in Dubois County has sent several people to the hospital.
Jasper Police say the accident happened Monday evening at the intersection of 15th and Newton Streets.
Officers say the driver of a freightliner truck headed southbound on Newton ran a red light colliding with a car. The truck then hit another car head-on, causing more crashes with three other vehicles, including a moped.
Police say Robert Young of Evansville, Makenzie Duncan of Huntingburg, Sherri Dunning of Jasper, Osmin Serrano of Huntingburg and Holly Venekamp were taken to local hospitals including Jasper Memorial and St. Mary's Medical Center.
They say one driver had to be extricated from a vehicle by the Jasper Fire Department.
Authorities say the truck driver, Frederick Craney of Washington, Indiana was charged with disregarding a signal and speeding to avoid a collision.
LifeFlight was called to the scene, but could not fly due to area storms.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
