EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
The Evansville Park Board is moving forward with plans to demolish Roberts Stadium.
Commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to award contracts to three firms. One to handle inspections during demolition. Another to handle engineering before the actual demolition takes place and a third to auction off items left inside.
Despite some opposition, board members say it's time to move forward.
"That's what we've done today, is really do what's necessary to prepare to do it. We haven't really awarded a bid to demolish the stadium yet, but we knew things would have to be done to keep the process moving," said Jay Ritter, the President of the Board of Park Commissioners.
The city will begin accepting bids for the actual demolition of Roberts Stadium once bid specifications are completed.
