Warrick Co. joins growing list of counties banning fireworks

WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

Another county has banned the use of personal fireworks in the Tri-State.

Monday morning, Warrick County Commissioners released a disaster emergency declaration.

Warrick County Commissioners say the ruling not only prohibits private fireworks in the county, but it also extends the current burn ban another week.

Commissioner Don Williams says they had hoped there would be enough rain over the weekend, so they would not have to prohibit the personal fireworks.

Newburgh officials tell 14 News they have also issued a ban on personal fireworks. The public displays in downtown Newburgh and at Scales Lake in Boonville have also been cancelled.

"That was the Boonville Fire Chief, as well as the director of Scales Lake were in unison about doing that. Overall Warrick County is a tinder box just waiting for something to happen. This morning it came out that there were two real minor fires that had already started due to fireworks," Williams said.

The commissioners decided to extend the current burn ban for seven days. They will decide next week if they should cancel or extend it again.
