NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Fire crews were called back to the scene of a raging weekend recycling center fire in New Albany after workers noticed flare-ups Monday morning.

The massive fire broke out at QRS Recycling's Riverside Facility Saturday night. Co-owner Matt Janson said it was contained to an area where they keep mixed materials waiting to be processed.

After getting the fire under control, firefighters left maintaining the area up to the facility. Early Monday morning, a worker noticed the smoke getting thicker and called in help.

"Basically what we were told to do was take the material that had been put out and move it into one area, which we did," explained Janson. "We had crews working throughout (Sunday) night doing that. At roughly 5:30 this morning there was a small flare up. That's why the fire department was called back."

Because no buildings were damaged and the fire was contained to the west part of the facility, work went on as normal Monday. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
