State police tell us 36-year-old Henry Lee Whistle has now been charged with murder in the death of his fiance', 31-year old Jamie Stowe.
Investigators say Stowe and Whistle got into an fight at their St. Croix home Sunday night.
Whistle was originally charged with battery.
An autopsy was performed yesterday afternoon, but her cause of death has not yet been released.
14 News spoke to Joseph Lynch on Monday and he says he owns the couple's home and has known them for years. He also says this case is especially tragic as Stowe leaves her children behind.
"It's quite a tragedy, and I'm so sorry it happened. It's going to be devastating to all of us yet," Lynch said.
Shortly, after they arrived investigators found Stowe's body. Indiana State Police say once on-scene, they interviewed Stowe's fiancé, Whistle.
In that interview, troopers says, Whistle told them he and Stowe got into a fight, just before Stowe's death.
"I just regret this happened. That's about all I can say," Lynch said.
Lynch says he's known Stowe and Whistle for four years. He says the couple had two children together, and three more from separate marriages.
"God rest her soul. Henry Junior Whistle, only God can save you now, sir," Lynch said.
Through the investigation detectives established enough probable cause to preliminarily charge Whistle with Battery, a class C- Felony.
