GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

In Gibson County Friday night, commissioners issued an emergency order banning all personal fireworks.

Commissioners met with the county Fire Chiefs and decided banning private fireworks would be in the best interest of public safety.

The public shows in Princeton and Oakland City will still go on as scheduled.

Firefighters will be soaking the grounds before both shows and stay on scene to prevent any fires from starting.

"Conditions have fell way below what we are accustomed to in normal droughts, so we have to take strict measures trying to protect here in the County," said County Commission President Gerald Bledsoe.

The emergency order will be in effect for seven days.
