EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Several local groups are hoping national and international television coverage of the United Leasing Championship at Victoria National will help draw more people to our area.
They're getting the word out about what southwestern Indiana has to offer, through high-quality commercials airing this week.
Most people in our area are getting a glimpse of Victoria National through our coverage here on 14 News, but people all over the world are now able to see it courtesy of the Golf Channel.
One thing they're also seeing are those commercials that highlight some of the top businesses and amenities our region has to offer.
The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana are three separate organizations, but in this instance, they're all on the same team.
"We thought, instead of coming away and each of us doing our own thing and not getting the frequency but more importantly having mixed messages out there, it would be better for us to have one central theme," said Greg Wathen with the Economic Development Coalition.
That theme is promoting southwest Indiana.
Wathen says his group and the Chamber are focusing on things like transportation, health, education and business.
"We featured businesses who already have locations here and the idea is that well if they would choose southwestern Indiana as a location, wouldn't somebody else?" said Wathen.
The same production company put all of the commercials together, so they all have a similar look.
But the CVBs spots have a different angle.
CVB Executive Director Bob Warren says they'll try to convince both couples and families, Evansville is a place they want to visit.
"We're one that should take great pride in how we present ourself to the work and for the first time we're presenting ourself to the world and that's exciting for us."
Many of those will air outside the Golf Channel, on cable networks within a 300 mile radius of Evansville.
