Heat causing difficulties in Henderson construction project

Posted: Updated:
HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -

In Henderson County, crews are forced to delay work on the US 60 overpass in the US 41 cloverleaf construction project until the overnight hours because of the extreme heat.

This is a pretty big project that requires pouring concrete, but even that job is too big to get done in the triple digit temps we've had so far this week.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says air temperatures must stay around 86 degrees and below before the high-strength concrete can be poured, otherwise it will set too fast.

So now contractors are working through the night trying to beat all the heat and stay as safe as possible.

Last night crews started work at 8 p.m.

Traffic in the westbound lanes of US 60 within the cloverleaf will have to keep taking the detours set up since last week.

Contractors still think they can finish the project by Monday.
