TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
There have been several heat related field fires this week.
Fire officials say with conditions so dry, even the smallest kindle can start a major fire.
Firefighters have been very busy this week, responding to multiple fires around the Tri-State.
The most recent one happened last night.
According to official, two acres burned around 11 p.m. at Lodge and Van Bibber in Evansville.
14 News was told that in this particular fire, there was evidence that fireworks started it.
Earlier in the day firefighters responded to another field fire in this same area.
One acre burned there.
Officials believe that one also began with fireworks.
Now, with the 4th of July in just a few days and no rain in the forecast, several public fireworks shows have been canceled or postponed, including Holiday World, Muhlenberg County and Tell City.
Many counties are currently under burn bans.
In fact, more than three-fourths of Indiana counties have issued burn bans and numerous counties are urging residents to refrain from using fireworks.
Some of the fire causes are unknown but fire officials say even a cigarette butt can cause a massive fire.
Also, officials say to be mindful of outdoor grilling, especially with the 4th of July coming up.
