Sports Corp ready to bring more events to Tri-State

WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Sports Corporation may not be a group many people have heard of, but that's something this group is hoping to change.

The Indiana Sports Corporation brought the Superbowl to Indianapolis. Becky Kasha and the Evansville Sports Corporation hope to do something big here in the tri-state.

"We feel like we have infrastructure here and the enthusiasm for sports that we need to tap into that to market our region and bring nice, wholesome entertainment and sports to our area," Kasha said.

Only months after it's inception last year, the Sports Corp as it's commonly called, landed the United Leasing Championship.

Hosting the Web.com Tour event at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh and thrusting the Sports Corp into the national spotlight.

"It builds pride that we have high-caliber events and it's a good buzz for the community. If you're trying to recruit young people, recruit professionals that look for certain things in a community, this is one more thing," Kasha states.

Kasha and the Sports Corp hope this tournament will mean big things for the Evansville area, especially since this is only the Sports Corp's second major event.

"We're told this golf tournament produces $5 to $6 million of economic impact for whatever city that it's in," Kasha said.

With the addition of the Ford Center, Kasha says the Evansville area is primed for professional and collegiate sports action.

"They want the athletes and the spectators to enjoy the same caliber of event in any city that they're in so we now tell them, 'we've got one under our belt and we're ready to take on anything you bring us,'" Kasha said.

Now it's a matter of convincing the sporting elite that this is the place to shine.
