Ellis Park hopes to have instant gaming at live meet

HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -

Besides fireworks, Ellis Park will open for its live meet on the 4th of July.

At Tuesday's annual media day, owner Ron Geary says he expects to have instant gaming at the track despite some unresolved issues in the state courts. Geary is confident it will be available at this meet.

Geary says the track operates under guidelines set by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission which he says has authorized instant racing regulations and has legislative oversight. Geary says that makes the instant gaming legal by law.

"We hope to have it open within 30 days of when I sign a deal with a partner. That's getting ready to inject enough capital to get this thing open, finish it up from what we've already done. We hope to be open before our meet ends," Geary said.

Ellis Park's live meet runs through Labor Day.
