Daviess Co. firefighters meet to discuss fireworks safety

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -

With the 4th of July coming up, Daviess County firefighters met on Monday night with workers at KyPyro for some advice on fireworks safety.

The experts say you should give what appears to be a dud, 30 minutes if it doesn't go off properly, then pour water on it, then wait another 30 minutes before disposing of it.

"Because of fireworks and the public being able to buy those fireworks, setting off those fires is pretty easy to do right now. Yeah, it's a little bit more. I don't want to say stressful but the fire numbers increase for us," said Chris York with Airport Sorgho Fire Department.'

The Airport Sorgho Fire Department will be on hand for the county's firework display at Panther Creek Park on July 3rd at 9:15.
