Tournament organizers making sure everyone stays safe in the heat

WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

With soaring temperatures by mid-week, the staff at the United Leasing Golf Championship wants to make sure players, spectators, and all the volunteers stay safe in the heat.

Everyone knows just how intense the heat can be, and that's why organizers at the tournament say they'll have EMS and paramedics on the course to make sure everyone stays safe in the sun. Tournament organizers making sure everyone stays safe in the heat

Keith Kahre, the EMS and security manager at St. Mary's Medical Center says it's especially important this week to follow common sense, wear light-colored clothing, and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink plenty of water.

They tell 14 News there are plenty of shady spots on along the course to help players and spectators get out of the heat.

"St. Mary's staff will be on-site all throughout the week and through the weekend as well as Warrick EMS. St. Mary's Warrick EMS will be here as well," Kahre said. "They'll be giving out water throughout the course and then we have a location here as well as we'll have an ambulance on-site. If someone does get into an extreme situation that way as well."

When you get to the event just pick up a course map. They have those first aid and safety areas marked.
