In Huntingburg Friday night, big concerns about the big number of burglaries. Ten recent cases of break-ins, five reported on Wednesday.
That many burglaries in such a short time is especially alarming for a small town like Huntingburg, and the police there say they're looking into it, and they're asking for your help.
Earlier this year, Huntingburg was hit with a rash of car and garage burglaries.
"Last Spring, we had several burglaries within the city limits and also on the county jurisdiction that adjoins to the west side of the city limits," said Christian Gogel with Huntingburg Police.
Now, the same thing is happening again, and police believe the two theft strings are related.
"The past week or so, we've had probably between six and 10. (It) just depends on which day of the week it starts. We've had quite a few, mainly to believe that it may be the same suspect or suspects. And we're looking into that right now and investigating several people involved," Gogel said.
Police say, the items stolen include iPhones, GPS devices, and a .22 caliber handgun. They also say most of the items have been taken from unlocked cars and garages.
"That garage is probably 15 years old, 20 years old. Never have locked it, never had anything ever stolen before," said burglary victim Fred Gehlhausn.
"I still think it's a safe neighborhood. And, you know, so it doesn't really bother me other than for the sake of the other people that it happened to," sad concerned neighbor Joyce Hancock.
Huntingburg Police say that they do have suspects in mind and that this case remains under investigation. They also say that if you see anything suspicious, you are encouraged to call them.
