MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

Madisonville Community College is recognized as being in the top 10% of all community colleges in the nation. It's part of the Aspen Institute College Excellence program.

The award is based on graduation rates, degrees awarded, student retention rates, and equity in student outcomes.

MCC is now in the running for a $1 million Aspen award prize that will be announced next Spring.

"I think it attracts more high school students to stay home when they graduate from high school to stay home and go to the community college a couple years and then transfer to finish their degrees," said MCC President Dr. Judy Rhoads.

It's the second straight year the school has been recognized with this honor.
