TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
Gasoline prices across the Tri-State and the country keep falling, heading closer to the three dollar mark.
That's welcomed news. Not too long ago they were closer to four dollars a gallon.
"Hopefully it will stay down there and go down more," said driver Edgar Sanchez.
Tri-State drivers like Sanchez say, especially with summer-time travel and relatives on the road more, lower gas prices mean a lot.
"They see it down to three, they want to spend more, they'll probably get all their cars filled up," Sanchez said.
The Hollander Group's Senior Vice President and Wealth Manager Teri Hollander Albin tells us the gap between three and four dollars a gallon affects the way drivers think about budgeting.
"I think that four dollars is a psychological number for some people," Albin said.
Albin says, over the course of a month, the difference between three and four dollars a gallon means around $50-$100 a month in costs or savings for drivers.
She tells us the price drop and unemployment rates going down, helps shoppers feel more confident.
"They seem to be stretching out a little bit more on making some of the purchases and doing some of the things that they've held off on for awhile," she said.
And drivers say they're optimistic the prices will mean more business at local shops.
"It's going to get a lot of business going here. So, hopefully it stays down, you know," said Sanchez.
Financial advisors say so watch that spending though, and put some of that saved money aside since gas prices do fluctuate during the summer.
