NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -
We're just four days away from the start of the Nationwide United Leasing Championship at Victoria National and with a big turnout expected, the club house staff has released a parking plan to help fans avoid the road construction near the Warrick County course.
State Road 261 in Newburgh will be the road tournament spectators will take to park at Castle High School. Construction there has reduced the road to two lanes.
However, tournament Director Becky Kasha says she anticipates an efficient driving and parking experience next week, even with this construction.
"I think if people will just do what they're asked to do, then traffic should move pretty quickly," Kasha said.
She says the players and officials alone will take up all the parking space that Victoria National has to offer. But she says drivers will have no problem finding a place to park.
"Everyone is going to park at the Castle High School area, and then they will be shuttled over to the golf course," Kasha told 14 News.
Kasha says these shuttles include van and bus transportation, and that the shuttle service will increase its efforts headed into the weekend.
"On the busy days, we will have between six and eight shuttles running. So they'll just make a continuous loop, and it's about 10-15 minutes at the most to make that loop. So you shouldn't have much of a wait at all," said Kasha.
Right now, the parking lot at Castle has an impervious appearance, but Kasha says they expect Vann Road to be open in time for the tournament.
"But if it's not, we have people that will help direct traffic and signage and whatnot. So either way, we're prepared and we'll help you get to the parking lot."
Kasha also says that anyone who parks at Castle will be asked to make a five-dollar donation to the Castle band's booster club. She also says anyone who uses the shuttle service will receive a $10 coupon from dick's sporting goods.
It's also of note that tournament tickets can be purchased online before the tournament starts. But during the week of the tourney, you can only buy tickets at the course.
On Monday and Tuesday, van transportation will begin at 6:00 a.m.
Beginning on Wednesday and through the Pro-Am, two vans will begins transportation at 5:00 a.m.
On Thursday and Friday, six vans will begin transportation at 5:00 a.m.
Finally, on Saturday and Sunday, eight vans will begin transportation at 7:00 a.m.
